Our jungle medical camp today: The sun was shining but the cold wind was blowing. We saw 70 people today. Many, many VOT. Victims of Torture. Many just sick from the conditions and untreated chronic illnesses. Saw 3 women today with history of sexual violence. Raped in Turkey on the journey to freedom.
The van is working really well. Dr Mark is seeing patients in the back with Terra and Sue doing pharmacy and scribing. It really is amazing how efficient this is. Dick is doing massage which really helps with ptsd and the pain of torture-beaten bodies.
Paula, Riikka and I are doing triage. Alex, our friend we met in Moria who is a refugee from Ghana and now living in Athens, came here to Samos to assist us. He has done an amazing job organizing for us. He mobilized Africans from 5 countries to set up, give out the numbers, keep order and then help clean up. We have great translators and everyone shows up every day. They are dedicated to helping themselves and their fellow refugees. And they are very wonderful people: A network engineer, teacher, businessman, journalist and a farmer.
They are amazing.
