DISTRIBUTION DAY was a massive joint effort led by MSF (Doctors Without Borders) and R4R Refugee4Refugee) to distribute winter blankets, tarps and water jugs. The event was well organized but chaotic. Some of our team worked that site and some worked the warehouse. I worked in the distribution center for new arrivals.
R4R provides a sleeping bag, hygiene bag, a bag of clothes and a tent for 4 people or one family.
The clothes are donated mostly used from the EU. They are bagged by size S, M, L, XL . There is a huge shortage of men’s clothing women, children have much more.
Clothing is put into a plastic bag. A man may get 1 pair of slacks, 1 long sleeve shirt,1short sleeve shirt, 1 dress shirt, 2 pairs of socks,1 dress shirt, 1 pair of underwear, and 1 sweater or coat. The bags are labeled S, M, L, XS. Labeling only denotes size – there is no choice of style and no exchange. They are grateful for this because so many have lost everything in the sea. And shoes . . . there is a huge need for men’s shoes. I see many people in flip flops and winter is coming. Cold feet are miserable.
Most of these donations are from the EU. It is too costly for a shipment from the USA.
Please consider making a donation to refugee4refugees this holiday season.
Returning now to our medical camp. 3 more clinics to go.
